Fund raiser for Immigrant rights

On Sept. 30th we will donate 5% of cafe sales to NW Immigrant Rights Project and Pueblo Unido, two nonprofits working to defend and advance immigrant rights in the Pacific Northwest.

Please join us in supporting these local organizations fighting discrimination and connecting community members with vulnerable immigration status to legal services and other support.

2022 NONPROFIT PARTNERS

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project - Seattle

NWIRP's legal services are critical to helping thousands of immigrants in Washington State navigate the complexities of the United States immigration system so they can apply for asylum or other forms of immigration protection. Without appropriate legal assistance, the men, women and children served by NWIRP may be less likely to obtain legal immigration status, and more likely to be returned to a country where they face ill treatment, torture, or even death.

Access to NWIRP's services can also be a major factor in providing economic and personal security. Without legal support, our clients are often unable to access medical assistance, housing or other basic services, and many of them are afraid to call the police for protection from domestic violence or other crimes.

Pueblo Unido - Portland

Pueblo Unido’s mission is to create hope for and amplify the voices of communities with vulnerable immigration status by making connections to legal, social, and Indigenous language interpretation services.

Legal representation is the single most predictive factor in whether a person will avoid deportation, secure more stable status, and achieve the right to remain in their community. Because immigration is civil—not criminal—court, however, the government does not provide legal counsel to those who cannot afford to hire their own. As a result, many people facing removal are forced to represent themselves, and are ultimately less likely to prevail against deportation.

Although free immigration legal aid programs are becoming more widely available in Oregon, many individuals with a vulnerable immigration status are still unable to access these services. This may be because the individual resides outside the geographic scope of the free legal aid program, or because they have a different type of immigration case or need than what the free legal aid program was designed to address, or simply because the free legal aid program is at capacity and unable to serve them in a timely manner.
