GRAND CENTRAL BAKERY EQUITY STANCE

Our values of delicious products, teamwork, outstanding customer service, sustainable food production, fair compensation, and excellence guide every decision we make. As an artisan bakery established with white ownership and leadership, we acknowledge that systemic and historic inequities founded on racial injustice and white privilege serve as a barrier to fully realizing our values.

With the help of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) consultants, we are actively engaged in work to build an anti-racist culture where all feel welcome, and everyone has a full opportunity to thrive.

Current actions include:

  • Providing paid, voluntary training for employees on implicit bias and providing regular workshops on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Embedding specific DEI expectations in all Grand Central Bakery job descriptions.

  • Reviewing our recruitment practices to achieve more inclusive and transparent hiring.

  • Donating and fund-raising for nonprofits that specifically support Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) communities.

  • Creating purchasing guidelines that prioritize doing business with companies and organizations owned and operated by Black and Indigenous and other People of Color.

  • Granting all employees paid Community Time to participate in activism and volunteerism to positively effect change in the community.

 COMMITMENTS

We at Grand Central Bakery pledge to take meaningful actions to support greater equity in our workplace and food system.

We acknowledge that this may be a long process, but we commit to moving forward in this work by:

  • Examining internal and external barriers to economic advancement through employment and using what we learn to hire, train, promote, and retain diverse employees.

  • Using a racial equity lens to evaluate business decisions, including where we operate, how we purchase products, and how we do business.

  • Improving the resources allocated every year to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training and development for our employees.

  • Learning from our mistakes and committing to openness and honesty in our journey to become an anti-racist organization.
