Meet FRIENDS OF FAMILY FARMERS

Every day is Earth Day to Oregon’s small and mid-size, socially and ecologically responsible farmers.
— Friends of Family Farmers

Friends of Family Farmers is the voice for Oregon family farmers who responsibly steward their land and feed our communities.

Some recent work:

  • Growing pasture-based livestock farming across the state.

  • Helping new and diverse farmers access land and capital to grow food.

  • Testifying in Salem for S.B. 85-1, legislation that would ban factory farms in Oregon.

  • Running Oregon FarmLink - an online resource hub that provides a platform for beginning farmers and land holders to connect.

Thank you for supporting Friends of Family Farmers in their mission of ensuring that Oregonians have continued access to fresh, local food and supports the growth of farming practices that take care of the land.

Meet HAKI FARMERS COLLECTIVE

We believe the need to find our roots, examine and use traditional practices, and disseminate this knowledge is an urgent mission to care for our bodies, souls, and especially our planet.
— HAKI Farmers Collective

Mercy Kariuki-McGee (left), HAKI co-founder, with Rosetta, a local educator. The nonprofit grows culturally relevant food crops at an urban farm in Thurston County.

The Haki Farmers Collective is a non-profit organization that seeks to bolster and reincorporate traditional and inherently sustainable farming knowledge that is present in the migrant and indigenous communities in Thurston County, Wash. HAKI supports and empowers BIPOC communities in the Lacey/Olympia area through urban farming, education, and healthy food access.

Their hunger relief program seeks to grow a network of medium and small scale BIPOC farmers and food distributors in order to keep black and brown people supplied with fresh and culturally relevant foods.

Current projects include:

o   Running a community garden and satellite farms in the Lacey/Olympia area.

o   Growing fresh culturally appropriate produce and distributing it to food insecure communities.

o Providing agriculture-based education opportunities for local youth and school groups.

o   Hosting BIPOC pop-up markets with local growers and artisans at their urban farm.

We’re proud to support this work as part of our commitment to support historically marginalized or underrepresented groups and business owners.
